7B11.u2 - Absorption Spectra with Student Gratings
To show absorption spectra with students using diffraction gratings
Place a continous light source on an On/Off switch. Have students grab a diffraction grating. Place an absorbing filter in front of the light bulb.
Turn on the light source. Allow students a few moments to observe the continous spectrum through their diffraction grating. Then place an absorbing filter in front of the light bulb. Students should see an altered spectrum corresponding to the absorption characteristics of the filter used.
