Title6H20.u1 - Polarization by Reflection Off Water
Objective

Demonstrate polarization by reflection off water.

Assembly Instructions

This demonstration is most easily done by mounting a projector on the large platform protractor on a cart as shown (do not set up on bench). The lamp is set at 37° from the horizontal to get polarized light off of the surface and a second lens is used to focus the light on the wall. If a polaroid is now rotated in the path one may show that the light is indeed polarized. The polaroid end cap for the projector works well for this. One may then proceed to change the angle and show that complete polarization takes place only at this angle.
