6C20.u1 - Diffraction of DNA (a slide with various patterns)
Demonstrate how the diffraction pattern of DNA reveals its physical structure.
The diffraction of DNA is a famous example of an important life science technique based on physics principles. This demonstration conceptually describes how the characteristic patterns in the image indicate the structure of B-DNA. Biological molecules are being identified today using this technique, and are inventoried at the Protein Data Bank.
The characteristic ratios and structure of DNA can be identified from the diffraction pattern of incident light on the structure.
