6C10.20 - Red and Blue Bulbs - Single Slit Diffraction
Demonstrate a simple way to see a diffraction pattern.
This demonstration allows each student to perform the exercise for him/herself. Place the outer sleeve with the red and blue filters over the straight filament lamp. In a slightly darkened room, have the student hold up two fingers side by side in front of the eyes and form a narrow slit. The student should see both a red and a blue diffraction pattern; the difference in widths of the two patterns is quite obvious.
