5K40.27 - Generator Model
Show a hand-turned model generator.
Connect the field terminals to the DC supply lines and set the corresponding rheostat for 150 No Load Volts. The upper commutator is a pair of cylinders connected to each end of the coil; if the projection galvanometer is connected to these terminals, it shows the AC output that is expected. The lower commutator is a single cylinder split into two halves vertically with each half connected to one end of the coil so that it switches to the other end of the coil every time it passes through zero, producing half wave DC. Thus, if the galvanometer is connected to these terminals, it swings away from zero, back to zero, then away from zero again, but in the same direction.
