Title5K10.30 - Mutual inductance - Current Induced by a Changing Magnetic Field
Objective

Demonstrate mutual inductance.

Assembly Instructions

Instructions
Connect the inner coil to the 6-V battery through a switch and the outer coil to the galvanometer. If the switch is closed and opened, there will be an induced current pulse shown on the meter, first in one direction, returning to zero, and then in the other direction. If the switch is closed and the outer coil is slid up and down, the inner coil can be shown to have the same effect as the permanent magnet in 5K10.20. There are several different cores which can be inserted into the inner coil. See 5K10.41: Magnetic Permeability.
