Objective

Demonstrate the magnetic field at the center of a coil of current carrying wire and the addition of the coil’s field to that of the Earth’s field to produce a net torque on the compass needle.

Instructions
A two-foot diameter narrow coil is mounted in a vertical plane with a compass needle at its center. When a current is passed through the coil, the compass needle aligns itself with the field which is perpendicular to the plane of the coil.
