Title1L20.10 - Gravitational Wells
Objective

To demonstrate gravitational wells that form in the fabric of space-time due to very massive objects and to demonstrate how less massive objects respond as a result.

Assembly Instructions

If using the large rubber sheet, attach the legs to the frame and place it on the large part of the lecture bench.  Use a b&w camera connected to a bench rod to view the rubber sheet from above.  Make sure the large mass is placed in its anti-roll base.  Be sure to let the lecturer know not to leave the heavy mass on the rubber sheet longer than necessary.

Operation Instructions

Turn on the camera so the class can view the demo from above.  One way:  Place the small marbles onto the center of the sheet and use the heavy mass, placed on the edge of the sheet and given a push into a spiral trajectory.  Other way:  Place heavy mass in center of sheet, use small marbles to see how their trajectory are affected by the presence of the heavy mass.
