1D60.30 - Shooting the Falling Teddy Bear
Demonstrate that a projectile aimed directly at a target will only hit the target if it falls at the same time as the projectile is launched.
Overview As the story goes, "There was a wise bear who seeing that a hunter was about to shoot, decided to drop from the tree at the instant that he saw the flash from the gun as the bullet left the barrel, and thus not be shot. However, the hunter was not up to the task and aimed the gun directly at the bear line-of-sight. Alas, the bullet found its mark on the way down."
A specially modified air gun fires a plastic golf ball mounted on a stick and simultaneously fires a radio pulse to the solenoid controller which releases the bear from the 'tree'. Ensure that the projectile is loaded and that the radio transmitter is turned ON. Switch on the targeting laser, aim between the eyes, pull the trigger. When the projectile is launched, the bear drops and the two meet somewhere along the drop path.
